Club president: Liverpool target could be sold in January

Club president: Liverpool target could be sold in January

Jun 28, 2025 2:41 AM

According to reports in Guardian, Swansea City have refused to rule out a transfer for star striker Wifried Bony in the January transfer window. Bony finishes 2014 as the Premier League’s highest goalscorer and the Ivorian has been a target for Liverpool and Manchester City for the January transfer window.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins however said that there is no offer for the striker who has scored 33 goals in 69 appearances since joining the Welsh side from Dutch outfit Vitesse Arnhem last summer. Bony however is set to leave for the African Cup of Nations in January.

Jenkins said, “As things stand we have not had any contact from anyone with respect to Wilfried. It’s just speculation linked to a player who is the top scorer in 2014 in the Premier League; which is perfectly natural.”

Though the January transfer window is generally a short time for making substantial transfers, when asked about Bony’s any potential move, the club Chairman said, “First and foremost I will consider everything that arises at the time. But as of yet we haven’t got anything to consider”.

“Players move around – that’s a fact of life. The one thing I’ve learned over time is never say never in football. But officially at the moment we haven’t had any contact from Manchester City or anyone else about Wilfried.”

Liverpool are in dire need of a striker in January and Bony suits the bill perfectly for the Reds but it remains to be seen if the Anfield side does splash the cash for the striker.
