Liverpool man Daniel Agger opened the scoring in the game by putting a fine header past Joe Hart. Two minutes later Theo Walcott was one step ahead of the defender and his cross was put away by Darren Bent at the far post.
The game remained level at 1-1 until the 68th minute when Ashley Young capped off a Glen Johnson run.
